Centralized Facilities

Centralized Facilities

Besides tailor made experimental setups for specialized research areas, strong supporting centralized facilities are available for our department and other academic users.

Computational Facilities

The department provides a powerful computational environment for various research fields through its two well-equipped computational physics laboratories, three high-performance clusters, 30+ Linux workstations, servers and many PCs. The three high-performance clusters are totally equipped with 108 nodes (2232 cores), 10TB RAM and 164TB Storage for parallel calculations. Other computer accessories include notebook computers, networked color laser-jet printers, scanners, digital camera and photocopiers. All hardware are networked and provide a full range of application software for scientific computing and graphics. Two technical staffs maintain an efficient computational environment for all research postgraduates, students, staff and visitors.

Central Laboratory Facilities

Our department has invested millions of dollars and great deal of manpower and resources to establish the Central Laboratory. This laboratory not only provides top-grade experimental equipment (listed below) for academic staff and graduate students to use, it also presents itself as a teaching laboratory for undergraduate students.
